What Prompts Heartburn In Women

[ad_1]

Heartburn is mostly the penance we pay for overindulgence. Eating too big a meal, enjoying greasy, acidic and spicy food, overdoing it with coffee, alcohol, tobacco, caffeinated and carbonated drinks often result in heartburn problems. We pay for it by suffering pain behind the chest bone, burning in the stomach and throat, inability to have a good night sleep and having no energy to work and enjoy life.

Unfortunately for women they have more symptoms of heartburn than men but men’s heartburn is more severe. The fact that you are a woman is not going to save you from heartburn if you are not watching what you eat. Overweight people, both men and women, are more prone to heartburn and acid indigestion than people with smaller waistlines. It seems you can’t discuss heartburn without mentioning weight loss.

During pregnancy, frequent heartburn is one of the most common complaints. With all the physical and emotional changes a woman goes through while pregnant, having heartburn doesn’t help. Women can suffer from heartburn during pregnancy even if they carefully watch their diet. When you consider that a person is growing inside the body, pushing the stomach to the esophagus which makes for stomach acid to overflow into the esophagus, it no wonder why heartburn happens so frequently. The problem won’t go away until the baby is born.

Eating smaller meals throughout the day, avoiding foods that have a lot of fat or spices in them, not eating chocolate or drinking coffee are the best solutions for minimizing the chances of heartburn while pregnant. Do not drink or smoke and even avoid second-hand smoke. If you smoke this is more than a reason to quit… this is a child’s life.

Since heartburn is the result of stomach content flowing into the esophagus, it’s important for pregnant women not to overeat. Even drinking too much water can cause a flare-up of heartburn. Since hydration is very important during pregnancy, sip small quantities of water constantly during the day.

Exercising can also cause heartburn, so it is important to wait a few hours after a meal, whether you are a man or a woman.

Heartburn in women is also prevalent because of clothes. Tight-fitting clothing will push on the stomach and chest resulting in acid from the stomach flowing into the esophagus and creating pain and discomfort.

Chocolate tastes good in the mouth but is bad for women with frequent heartburn. Women are more likely to go for chocolate during the times of stress or emotional upset. Chocolate contain stimulants like caffeine and theobromine and a small amount of phenethylamine, which causes the production of serotonin in our bodies. Serotonin has been linked to that change of feeling that men and women go through as a result of eating chocolate.

Stress is another important trigger of heartburn attacks. The level of stress men and women have to handle is enormous, but for women their stress can almost be overwhelming as they feel pressure from many different sources – the job, running a household, financial pressure, the list can go on and on. Heartburn is just one consequence that can affect the body. While it’s virtually impossible to eliminate stress completely, finding something else to focus on will help. Learning techniques that help you deal with stress, taking your troubles out in the gym or simply beginning a new hobby are sure-fire ways not turn your attentions away from your stress.
